Thornwick St Mary's Community Speedwatch scheme is being extended to Church Lane, following concerns raised by residents about vehicle speeds in that part of the village. The scheme has been running on the High Street for just over a year, working alongside the vehicle activated sign, and has seen a steady decline in reported speeding over that time.
The extension will see existing volunteers joined by two new recruits, giving the scheme enough people to cover sessions on both roads without stretching anyone too thin. Sessions will continue to be arranged on an informal, rolling basis, with any vehicles recorded exceeding the limit referred to the police for a warning letter.
If you live on or near Church Lane and would like to get involved as a volunteer, or if you have concerns about a particular stretch of road, please get in touch with the Clerk. No special equipment or experience is needed, just an hour or so of your time when a session is arranged.
